On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, we said goodbye to Boo.π For the last couple of months he had been battling a very aggressive lymphoma, and even after receiving a βrescueβ shot of L-asparaginase last week, he continued to decline. To the very end, he was a stubborn, adorable floof, with a personality that was larger than life.π
We miss him terribly, but will always hold tight to our memories of his adventurous spirit, entitled personality, mayoral candidacy, “Resting Boo Face” (RBF), lady troubles, beard grooming, beautiful red eyes, and the serendipity that brought him back to us. π‘
You see, we met Boo long before we adopted him. When we first visited the Ferret Aid Society in December of 2019, Boo π» (then Santa Paws π
) was there along with several others, including Wren π¦ and Pabu π, our very first ferrets. That evening he was all huffy from having just had his ears cleaned by one of the volunteers , and had rewarded this indignity with a great big nip. This unfortunate first impression, paired with his red eyes, actually made him the ferret we were least interested in. Boo was the ferret we didn’t want. Crazy, right?
After Pabu passed from kidney disease 7 months later, we were looking to find Wren a companion to help her (and us) with his loss. Ferret Aid was not operating at this time, due to COVID, so we had a search saved on Kijiji. We almost didn’t contact the person looking to re-home a pair of male ferrets –a 1-year old and a 7-year old. However, once we did, they told us that they had adopted them from a local shelter, and their names were… Santa Paws and Gandalf! π
So yeah… serendipity. Wren got reunited with a shelter friend (you should have heard her dooks!), and we got both a beloved wizard, and the surprise that was the ferret we had initially not wanted… but soon could not imagine being without. “Boo!” indeed β€
Thank you so much Boo, for the lessons you taught us, for the love you gave us, the memories you made with us, and for just being you.
There will never be another you.
There will never be another Boo! π»
We love you forever. Rest well. And please, feel free to haunt us. πΎπ»ππ
β€ We will be forever grateful to Campus Estates Animal Hospital and VCA Canada 404, who did so much for him, and us. Thank you so much. β€
